Crumbs and Cream

Umami

The fifth flavour

Sought after for the savoury complexity

We glorify and adore

Yet its purest glutamic form

Sneered at and shamed upon

Vilified on grounds of

Pink, fluffy unicorns

Made me wonder about

All the other tastes

We chase

Only in moderation

For interesting reasons

I think I’ve found

My perfect contender

A customised wonder

The new trend setter

A frozen pint of

Crumbs and cream

Neatly boxed away

As if quarantined

Its scent so pungent

No wrapper can contain

Take a whiff with caution

As you consume

Or it might just

Consume you

You dive into the speckled grey

Formed to your taste

Savour every last bite

Bitter shards and vanilla delight

The appeal lies

Not in black and white

The greatest of all flavours

Has always been

The lingering bliss

Of reminisce

An indulgence

That must be kept

At an arm’s length

Away from the grip

Of a past -ship
