[Part 1] POLSCI 101: “Don’t be a fool”*
Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can’t help falling in love with you
If you can’t help it, don’t
Love comes when it chooses and leaves when it must
Trying too hard destroys it
Not trying at all decays it
Don’t be a fool
You know it’s best to just let it be
After all, it’s written in the stars
The ends of the universe, stretched beyond our imagination
Constellations of causation
Mapped out for you and me
Please don’t do more than wish upon a star
In fact, don’t even wish at all
For your wish alone may disrupt the laws of nature
Do you want to risk eternal darkness
Let’s keep the Sun happy, I beg you please
To the arrogant fool who tries to rearrange perfection
Who are you to interfere with natural selection
Some people are born to be loved and others are not
Guess what your arbitrary sympathy creates
The worst situation
Kill them with kindness, you say
Go ahead if you want blood on your hands
For your feeding of selfish satisfaction
Is what feeds their starvation
Don’t be a fool
For you should listen to me
The wise man who refuses to surrender to love
No rational person would choose vulnerable helplessness
I know better and so should you
Forget your trivial nuances, look at the bigger picture
Remember you are insignificant
Your attempt is futile at best
Detrimental beyond conception at worst
There is no room for optimism
But there is plenty of room for disaster
Don’t blame the stars
If you are wise, you will learn to love them
Learning to accept helplessness is different to surrender
This is no slave morality
For it is wise to refuse betterment
Capitalist corporate cruelty says “make it work” or be replaced
But when it comes to love, don’t even try
Who cares about myths and illusions
The night sky is clear as day
Don’t be a fool
In the stars, there lies truth
Look closely but not too close
For it is precisely the stars who will tell you
That some lives are more destined than others
But it is foolish to care about truth
Love makes people foolish
Foolish people can’t help but fall in love
If anything, we should help those who at least try to resist it
A wise man knows that he knows nothing
The wiser man knows better than to escape blissful certainty
If you care about wisdom, learn from me
I know nothing but I know that it is wise to presume rationality and choice for all equally
To the fool who thought that education is worth the effort
The gap between theory and practice is inevitable
Forget about better, don’t bother trying to make it smaller
Nature, nurture, useless, helpless, lazy
Let’s just ignore that the sky is made from individual stars
We can’t afford to upset the Sun so let’s give up before trying
Love yourself and stay content
But if you can’t help it, don’t
